Affirmations And Gratitude
The mind is a powerful tool in your recovery. Fill your self with thoughts
and feelings of gratitude for your new way of living. Make a list of
the good things in your life and all the positive things you want to
do with your new found freedom from alcohol abuse. Invision these desires
coming to fruition. Feel what it feels like to reach these goals. Reinforce
the good you've got going by saying to yourself everyday: "I am
a wonderful person with plenty to offer. I am beautiful. I am strong.
I am smart. I live in the now. I love myself. I deserve to be happy
and healthy." The sillier it feels, the more you need it.
Meditation
If you are like me, you cringed at the idea of meditation. Sitting
still for hours on end while your legs fall asleep trying to think of
nothing, was not my idea of fun. But that's not what meditation is all
about. After forcing myself to give it a go, I turned out to really
love it. Meditation has been one of the most powerful tools of my recovery.
First, know that thoughts are okay. Let them come and go. Thoughts
aren't bad. Just don't obsess over them. In fact, the thought to do
this website came to me in meditation.
Second, don't make a big deal about it. Simply start by sitting quietly
in silence for 2 minutes. Pick a mantra like the Universal "Om", the original vibration of creation. Close your eyes, breath deeply and repeat "Om" to yourself. For 2 minutes. Easy. Just 2 minutes. Your day will change. You will be calmer, more in your body, and more ready for whatever comes your way. If you like it and feel the benefits, work toward 5 minutes, then 10 minutes. Take a mediation class or workshop.
